Paul van Dam
I have been busy making a portrait of the
Architect Paul van Dam who tragically died
before he saw his final building (Creative Valley)
completed.
I dissected the photo into the same elements that
make the shape of Creative Valley.
One long middle section with five boxes either
side.
Added some texture of the concrete wall where he
hangs and printed that on ceramic tiles.
After quite a few attempts the tiles were cut out
and placed on the wall in Creative Valley.

Past Lives.
An Astrologer once told me that in a former life I was an asian
priest.
So I made this up from an old poster of a chinese empress,
a photo I took of balinese statue, a 1950's french Vogue and an
old shot from the 1980's (which feels like a past life anyway).
Photomontage printed on canvas 80cm x 80cm.

Still life II
For flowers are good both for the living and the dead.
For there is a language of flowers.
For there is sound reasoning upon all flowers.
For elegant phrases are nothing but flowers.

Beautiful Decay.
Influenced by the Dutch 16th & 17th
century Vanitas still life painters.
I have tried to translate that genre
into a modern urban setting.
Vanitas is latin, meaning emptiness and
loosely translated corresponds to the
meaninglessness of earthly life and the
transient nature of vanity.
These painters were often obsessed with
with death and decay.
I myself am more concerned with the latter,
but perhaps they go hand in hand.

Made you think exhibition.
This portrait is part of a book called Made You Think which
is the initiative of Rosa de Jong and Clien Wintzen.
60 Creatives were selected to participate with their free work
within the theme Made you Think.
Out of the 60 participants that contributed to the book 20 were
chosen by a professional jury for an exhibition at the club
Trouw in Amsterdam.
I was very happy to be one of the 20.
Digital fine art print on Art Glicee 76 cm x 76 cm.
