Sketchbook Project 2012

Second time around for the Sketchbook project.
I like the pressure of a deadline.
No time for artistic contemplation or insecurities.
Just doing it.

Parrot preserved.

Mixed medium on canvas 50 cm x 50 cm.

I found this parrot in a junk shop.
I like to think that it once lived and that the owner devastated
by it's demise preserved it on cardboard.
Dusty and abandoned I brought it back to life
new eyes, new feet, a new feather or two
a swing and a freshly painted
environment and Perry the parrot lives on.

Retrospect

"In retrospect, the past seems not one existence with a continuous flow
of years and events that follow each other in logical sense,
but a life periodically dividing into entirely separate compartments."

Yuri

Yurei: Yu meaning faint or dim
rei meaning soul or spirit.

In Japanese mythology, Namazu is a giant catfish who lives in the mud
beneath the earth and causes earthquakes.
Namazu is guarded by the god Kashima, but when Kashima lets
his guard fall, Namazu thrashes about, causing violent
earthquakes.

After the great Edo earthquake of 1855, Namazu took on new meaning
as yonaoshi daimyojin, which loosely translates as a god of rectification,
and it became commonly held that the catfish was punishing human
greed.

We should not forget the thousands of innocent lives lost in this
modern disaster.

Zeedijk Oude Bakkerij

I have often circled this beautiful abandoned building
looking for a way in.
This week I was in luck, someone had cut a hole
in the wire fencing big enough for me, my camera and
my collage character to squeeze through and have some fun.
Here is the result.
Art is rubbish.
Pink Mornings.

Fry up.
Paint Truck.

Brotherhood?

There is a piece of graffiti that I run past every second
day that really pisses me off.
Not only is it a complete waste of paint but it is obviously
done by some mindless fool.
So I made a hybrid tribal character  and stuck it over
the offensive type.
I am hoping that it invites others to comment.

Give me a robe...

Hold my hand.

Oh no!

I have a recurring dream of being a passenger on a
plane that can not rise above the city.
There is no sight of a sky and no exit.
The plane never crashes but quite often lands on a freeway.
